Last weekend we had our first shower. My parent's friends threw us the nicest party! The house had an awesome view of the river. We had the best time ever. We were even surprised by mom inviting some friends that were Craig's fraternity brothers at UK. We thought the party would be all mom and dad's friends. We got the nicest gifts and could not believe how fun the party was!

I love the simple white and gold plates alone or with the cute butterflies! I am sure the people that work at LV Harkness and Dolfingers are glad they won't see me for a while!

I still have flashbacks of the 2003 ice storm. Lucky for me I have power and have been off work all week. My family is not so lucky! Grandparents and parents are without power for maybe even a week. Grandparents made it to the only hotel in Paducah with power. My parents are toughing out the dark and cold for now. Here is what the storm looked like in Paducah:

Mom and Dad are sending pictures from Owensboro. Kentucky has been declared as in a state of emergency. Hope everyone is warm and safe wherever they are! I am counting down the days until Spring.

My girlfriend and JR League buddy, Kristy/Le Petite Blog tagged me. I was supposed to go to my 6th picture folder and find my 6th picture. Here is what I found.....

Now let me explain. This is not sitting in my living room (just had to clarify since friends like to joke about me being from Western KY.) This was taken at my friend, Jessica's Bachelorette Party last year in Nashville. We decided to do the country bars downtown Friday night and then a nice dinner and dancing on Saturday. This fine establishment is called "Trailer Park Paradise." Don't you love the decor? I usually don't dress like this. For some reason when we have girls trips we like to pretend we are still in college. We all swapped clothes and I was dressed by super trendy Amanda who lives in California.

Thursday Craig and I are going to St. Louis. The Cardinals are our favorite baseball team and neither of us have been to the new stadium. I can remember going to watch the Cardinals on weekend trips when I was little. My brother would get so excited because Ozzie Smith would do back flips. We are going to the Arch, baseball game, botanical garden, zoo and of course some fun bars and restaurants! I can't wait!

Back to School Blues!

Don't worry. I am still alive. Imagine doing nothing all summer. Then all of a sudden having to wake up at 4:30 am (seriously), wiping noses, breaking up fights, paperwork, singing the days of the week and the tooty-ta twice a day.....and any other preschool teacher job duties. I am at a new school this year. It is a big change but I am adjusting. My favorite part is I have 3 other fabulous co-teachers! It is truly the land of the little people. I think we have like 150 3-5 year olds in our building. My students are hillarious and it is so fun getting to know them. We had cupcakes today for a birthday and then a fire drill. Let me just tell you that I would rather pull my hair out. Imagine everyone all sugared up and then trying to get everyone out in some sort of organized chaos...Crazy!!!!!

Needless to say, I have been neglecting my blog. So I decided to sit out on the porch and give my blog some attention this evening.

Hope everyone is great and looking forward to the CATS first win this long weekend!

I can't believe it has been 10 years since I put on the white dress, went to Memorial Hall and decided to join Pi Phi. What a great decision! It is one of those ripple effect moments that you don't realize at the time but will forever change your life. I am so thankful for all of the lifelong friends, fabulous memories, fun moments in the house, tailgates, Keeneland, Sunday mornings in the basement, road trips to SEC every year,Two Keys....I could go on and on. Since college it has turned into being a bridesmaid in weddings, being there for the birth of a child, buying first home....Even though we are all spread across the US I still have my best Pi Phi friends and I am so grateful for them. SO, on October 24th at Keeneland we will celebrate 10 years together. Invites will go out soon.

The horse show is over. A sigh of relief! No major disasters, perfect weather and a fabulous time! I enjoyed being on the horse show board this year. It was well worth all of the time spent. I loved getting to know the other girls on the board, all of the provisionals and the characters at the Red Mile. The week began with the Gala at Elmendorf Farm. Carrie did a great job planning the party. Lundy's did the catering and the food was really yummy! The farm is one of my top 10 beautiful spots in Lexington. Here are some photos. Saturday July 5th is the Horse Show Gala. It is going to be a fabulous party! It is at Elmendorf Farm, which is amazing. Tickets are $50 per person. The price is totally worth it. Lundy's is doing the catering, Maker's Mark will be there, cigar rolling stations, great bands, great fun!

This is my first tag. Preppy Bride tagged me to tell 5 things about my boyfriend. Here it goes..

1. He is a really good singer. He sang and performed in his high school choir and has sang in weddings. I really think he wants to be on American Idol.

2. He is almost finished with his first year of residency at UK. He loves his job and is such a hard worker. He wants to be a pediatric cardiologist. He is one of those naturally smart people who never studies. I'm jealous!

3. He snores so loud I swear you could hear it down the street.

4. He is from Louisville and wants to move back someday. Every time he drives down the street he cusses the Lexington traffic and tells me he can't wait to go back to Louisville. I really think he wants to be closer to his family. He is really close to them and I love that. They are great!

5. He makes me want to be a better person. He always has a good attitude. Even after working a 30+ hour shift. He sometimes has to calm me down when I have one of my drama queen stress attacks over nothing. I don't know what I would do without my pumpkin! (He might die that I said pumpkin over the internet. )

One week from today I will be blowing out my birthday candles! I can't believe I will be entering into the last year of my 20's. Scary! I fully intend for this to be a great year, which I will enjoy every minute of.

Can you sense my excitement?. I do love my profession on most days. But, I do have to vent about my year a little. I have way to many children, way to many IEP's and WAY to much paperwork. I actually feel like a secretary and not a teacher. I have never looked forward to summer so much in my entire life. I have encountered non-teacher's before who have said to me, "Why do you have so much vacation? I only get a week of vacation." I would like to remind the non-teachers out there that you can go re- apply to college and obtain your teaching certificate. I would also like to remind them that we make nothing.And get up at 5:00 am. Teachers deserve every minute of summer vacation. So, to all the teachers out there, HAPPY SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Louisville Zoo Wedding

I had a fabulous weekend! One of my best friends, a sorority sister from college got married and had the reception at the Louisville Zoo. Here are some of the adorable details:

The rehearsal dinner was at Nick's parent's house in Anchorage. So cute! Love the big pictures.

Enjoying the train ride through the zoo. This reception spot gets two thumbs up from me. It was so unique and the perfect reflection of Jenna and Nick's personality. Plus, the gorilla was adorable!

Got this for 50% off at Peppermint Palm this weekend! Love me some Lilly!!! Wanted to buy whole store. Restrained myself. Was thinking it would be cute to wear to the JL Horse Show. Have tons of tickets if anyone is interested! If you don't like horses you can shop or people watch. Or hang out with me. Will be there every night since I am Grounds Chair this year. Ahhh! I am not sure who exactly reads my blog. Since my blog is new I have changed the name a few times. I decided, "Katie" was just plain boring. I kind of like "Kentucky Katie" and think I will keep it. You might also be wondering why I have made 3 new posts in one weekend. Yes, I am somewhat of a nerd. But I do have an excuse this time. I have been feeling sick all weekend and decided to rest. I think it is a combination of no sleep, super stress from work and hectic social schedule. So, I am completely enjoying a little blog therapy,pj's and lifetime television.

Graduation and Chicago?

My younger brother graduated from Western Kentucky University last weekend. How exciting!It was so nice to be home with family. He left the next day for Chicago to look for a job. I am hoping the job hunt is successful and he finds something he likes. Plus, what a great place to visit.... I am dying to visit 1154 Lill Studio and design my own bag! Here is an idea:

Javits' idea was to marry the cool excitement of GREY GOOSE Vodka with Audrey Hepburn's character in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's." I am not a fan of Grey Goose. Actually I don't like any vodka. But, Molly Simms has my vote for the best dressed celeb at the Derby.We must have the same taste since we are both from Western KY.... Spring in Kentucky

I am happy it is FINALLY Spring for several reasons. Keeneland, dogwood tree's, warmer weather, Derby parties,flip flops, 26 days of work left AND I want to wear a dress that looks like this

from my favorite store in the entire world (Lilly Pulitzer.) The new summer collection just came out and it is true Lilly fashion with bright colors and bows. I wish I had this on right now sitting poolside at a party.Or with a cute hat at the Derby. Much better than my work outfit I am wearing now. Khaki pants with finger paint and dirt!

Green Thumb

Jenna's Brunch

Saturday we had a brunch for Jenna. What could be better than yummy food, Keeneland Spring Meet and my best friends?Megan and I had so much fun planning the shower. We really think we should quit teaching and become party planners/caterers!! We made smoked salmon bagels, country ham biscuts, fruit salad, heart shaped pimento cheese sandwiches, mini cheesecake bites and more!! We surprised her with a monogrammed beach bag filled with presents.

We had the best time! Wish we all lived in the same city.
